I am not exactly sure why I was so fortunate to cross paths with my lovely wife, Mrs. Shife. But more than 12 years ago, while I was dressed up like a trailer park pimp and wearing make up (fraternity party ... don't ask but there is a picture of me at the end of this post if you want to check out my hotness) and she had just gotten off work from cleaning a house we met. It is safe to say that neither of us made a strong first impression but somehow that initial meeting led to a first date and that first date led to the rest of my life.
So during this season of giving and thankfulness I just want to say that I grateful to that broken road that led me straight to her ....
"Bless The Broken Road"
I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
[Chorus:]
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true
[Chorus]
Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.

ReplyDeleteAmazing how the paths cross and converge. One never knows when one gets up in the morning what is going to happen and what it's going to mean.
ReplyDeleteHi Val. Thank you. I am more than happy to share this story with everyone because she is a wonderful woman. And you are more than welcome to share your story here on my blog because it is a great one as well.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - I think me and Mrs. Shife are glad we hooked up too because I never could have imagined being so in love with that little man. I know I might change my tune when he is 13 and I want to paint his back porch red, but right now I am just enjoying Baby Shife. I will worry about Teen Shife some other day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Red. I swear I never get tired of saying that because it reminds of the Hellboy movies. The House of Shife is very happy.
ReplyDeleteOh how correct you are Ms. Moon. It is especially true now because I never know what Baby Shife has in store for me each and every day. Today he surprised and let me sleep in until 8. It is the little things.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteBeing thankful is the best way to show our loved ones that they really matter to us.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO THE SHIFES!!!

ReplyDeleteyou saw mrs shife and said, i'll take the deal!
A lovely romantic stroll through serendipity park..
ReplyDeleteie HUGE points *wink wink
You're not-so-dumb ;)
Who knows how these relationship thingamabobs fall into place..science tells us that subconsciously we rely heavily on odors to detect favorable genetic qualities? When I met my good-lady-wife it was more of an eyegasm.
Knowing too much scientificky crap really takes all the magic out of lurve anyway.
All I know, is that somehow, there seems to be a lid for every pot, and an ass for every saddle.
Dude I', all for love, but Rascal Flatts. Really?
ReplyDeleteAw!!!! Merry Christmas to the Shife household!
ReplyDeleteYou're a sweet man and you, Mrs. Shife and Baby Shife warm my heart.
ReplyDeleteLove to that fat basset, too.
Merry Christmas.

ReplyDeleteI popped back to wish you a Happy New Year. May your personal sun shine brightly in the coming months.
