I had a very surreal weekend. As some of you know, I went up to the University of Idaho for a reunion with a bunch of my fraternity brothers. U of I is located in Moscow, and you may have heard the news that a gunman killed four people there over the weekend. My friends and I were about two blocks away from where this happened, and about a block away from where the guy was drinking before he did what he did. It was very unsettling receiving a phone call from Mrs. Shife telling me that there was a sniper running loose in Moscow. The guy shot over 120 bullets, and I really don’t think any of us were in any immediate danger but it is disturbing knowing how close we were to this unimaginable tragedy. I am not sure if I have properly processed all my emotions but right now the world seems a little crueler. It is events like this that make you realize that nobody is guaranteed a tomorrow and that you should treat every day as a gift.
Well holy cow Shife. I didn't even hear about that way over here among the hokies, but that's crazy. Glad you made it out okay, even if Batman Begins is your favorite Batman movie. You're forgiven for that since you were almost killed by a stray bullet. That wins you one pass in my book.
ReplyDeleteSo does this mean we don't get any hilarious stories about various parts of the male anatomy being drawn on sleeping drunkards? Because I would be sad if this was the case. We need to life live one day at a time, and if drawing dicks on people's faces is a part of that, so be it.
Oh I have some stories but I think I will save those for Friday. But sadly there was no visit from the dick-faced fairy.

i can't imagine what mrs.shife felt hearing this news. you guys deserve a nice long walk on a beach together just appreciating life and for the love of all things holy, please wear a bullet proof vest.
ps, i really hope that if something horrible did ever happen to you, mrs shife would at least let us, your loyal fans know. we would definately need closure.

ReplyDeleteAbout fifteen years ago, they caught a serial rapist, the news crews was out in force. They showed the cops running around with guns and all. You could see our house in the footage. Not as heart pounding as your experience, but just as frightening.

As everyone else has said, glad to hear you're ok! I'm not sure what's going on in the world these days where people feel they have to use guns to "solve" their problems or what have you. It's coming up on one year that one of my friends was killed by a stray bullet while delivering the mail. All b/c 20 yr old punks felt they had a right to claim parts of the town as theirs. And now, all of a sudden, they're "innocent." Go fig!

yeah, wow, mr shife. missing disaster by a hair's breadth is rather traumatic. sorry you had to go through it. i hope you were able to find an alcoholic beverage to help you deal.
