Thought of the day
It’s been a bit of a heavy week out there.Post-holiday blues, cold, dreary weather, and suddenly you’ve got yourself one slightly soggy and melancholy Mr. Shife.
Lately, my brain keeps replaying a scene from Terminator 2 on a loop. John asks if humans are going to “make it,” and the Terminator basically reminds him that we’re really good at pushing the self-destruct button. Not exactly the pep talk you want from your favorite killer robot.

Aren’t you glad you stopped by for this uplifting ray of sunshine?
Every time it feels like we’ve hit bottom, life hits us with the emotional version of a late-night infomercial:
More chaos, more headlines, more reasons to rub your temples and wonder if the warranty on the human race has expired.
Sports used to be my escape, but even that’s getting weird. Between NIL and the arms race in the big-boy conferences, it sometimes feels like you’re not cheering for teams anymore—you’re cheering for accounting departments.
Movies should be the backup plan, but then the streaming services are like, “Sure, you can watch this two-hour film… after nine commercial breaks and a reminder to upgrade your plan.” By the time the ending hits, you’re not emotional, you’re just grateful you survived the pharmaceutical ad onslaught.
All that said, I’ll be fine. I just needed to let some of the air out of the balloon before it popped.
It is also to let you know that if you’re feeling a little worn out in your corner of the world, too, you’re not alone. That is what I love about this little blog community I'm part of: we’ll keep showing up, cracking bad jokes, and trying to find the good stuff anyway.
Thanks for being here. Take care of yourself, and remember: We will try again tomorrow and keep fighting the good fight.

It is all we can do...get up tomorrow and keep on going. There are a lot of good people fighting the good fight. Remember that.
ReplyDeleteI will. Thanks, Debby.
DeleteThank YOU for being here.
ReplyDeleteWe will fight again tomorrow and the tomorrows after that!
Yes, we will. Thanks, Bob.
DeleteTry to keep a happy thought if possible.
ReplyDeleteDoing my best, Debby.
DeleteYour memes always bring me joy. I'm glad my visiting basset family brought you joy in return.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelly!
DeleteI'm with you on all of this. I rarely post about politics on my blog but have needed to vent more than normal. Everything feels overwhelming and hopeless at times. Hoping for better times ahead. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteMe as well, Margaret.
DeleteLove the memes! I’m that kind of emergency contact.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you’re here. It keeps me from reading stupid News about a foolish man.
XOXO
TY, SP!
DeleteI hear you Matt; some days it's just too much. I wish I could write as eloquent as you did on my post; your comments are always so heartfelt. We are all in this together and some days we need to let that air out of the balloon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, kden.
DeleteI work to find small joys in every day. And there are a LOT of them. Also, I have gotten hurt folding a newspaper and turning my head too fast to check the lane before switching. Nothing lasts forever, and a POS that's falling apart in every conceivable way will also not last forever. Can't wait to read about it and celebrate.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteJanuary is a tough month, no doubt about it. Honestly, TikTok cheers me up every evening. There are some hilarious dog accounts, among other things.
ReplyDeleteIG is helping me out but I might have to check out TikTok. Thanks, Bijoux.
DeleteI used to be a movie guy and we watched several every week. Now I'm lucky to see maybe six a year. Sadly, I haven't really missed them.
ReplyDeleteI heard they haven't missed you either, Ed. 😁
DeleteI like the last meme. As for sports, gambling ads has ruined it.
ReplyDeleteYes, they have, Jeff.
DeleteHopefully you'll be in better spirits soon.
ReplyDeleteTY, MK!
DeleteI start and stop streaming services depending upon which way the wind is blowing, so there's usually on two going at one time. Since that's not too expensive, I opt out of the commercials. Never, ever purchase one of those yearly plans unless you're watching that service several hours a week. Cheese! sharp or otherwise, is great.
ReplyDeleteSolid advice. Thanks, Dave.
