Thought of the day
Thank you for your condolences and kind words about Mrs. Shife’s mom. We’re hanging in there, but as you can imagine, some days are better than others.
Life has tried to “help” by throwing a few diversions our way.
I recently got 21 stitches in a very “inconspicuous” place.
Hardly anyone noticed the large 2‑inch incision on my forehead.
I had to have some skin cancer removed.
Fortunately, they got all the bad stuff, and I’ll have a nice permanent reminder to wear my sunscreen.
Kyle is getting braces today.
He shouldn’t have to have them for too long.
The hope is he’ll have them off before his senior year of high school starts in August.
For the love of fat bassets, I can’t believe he’s going to be a senior next year.
Speaking of bassets, I got a stern lecture from the vet that both Ms. Frizzle and Lucy are overweight, so I’ve been working hard on helping them lose a few pounds.
We were also hoping the Christmas spirit might give us some cheery distractions, but the weather outside is so not frightful.
We’ve been in the 50s and 60s with no snow on the ground or in the mountains, so it is not feeling a lot like Christmas.

That is all for now.
Thank you for being here for me, and you are more appreciated than you will ever know.

Yikes! Dr. Frankenstein's monster I presume? I had one removed from my nose and was amazed at the number of stitches they used!
ReplyDeleteOne of my lab granddogs went on the green bean diet (seriously... canned green beans) and lost weight. She's kept it off, too.
There's a such thing as a dual crock pot???
Yikes for sure but I think I am looking better now that the stitches are out and the scabs are mostly gone. Frizz loves green beans so that might be an option. Thank you.
Delete2025 has been a dumpster fire in more ways than one. But holy cow, those are serious stitches!!!! I'm so sorry! My husband has battled skin cancer but always has the Mohs surgery which apparently is a lot less invasive than what you had done! OUCH!
ReplyDeleteThis holiday is a sad one, but I hope your family experiences peace and joy by being together. Merry Christmas, my friend.
Thanks, Bijoux!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
DeleteYowza, look at you! I hope you heal quickly and well.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had a small pre-cancerous patch removed from my leg, it resulted in a big stitched up wound too because they also remove a sizeable surrounding perimeter both around and down from the actual problem spot (as you know now too). I told everyone who asked about my large scar that I got it in a knife fight in a lesbian bar. Now's your change to make up your own badass story so make it a good one! But I must say, the doctor did a good job because now, a few years later, the scar is practically invisible. If I didn't know where to look for it, I wouldn't be able to find it.
Thanks, Debra. I think I might borrow your story and go with getting into a knife fight at a lesbian bar.
DeleteI'm glad they got all the skin cancer; it's nasty stuff. My dad battled it for many years. Dumpster fire isn't strong enough to describe 2025. Our weather is nasty but getting colder, so I'm assuming yours is too. More seasonal, even if there's no snow. A senior? No way! Hope the bassets slim down without too much trouble. My cat is either too skinny or too fat. Nothing in between.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Margaret. Lots of moisture here but not too chilly.
DeleteI'm glad they were able to get all the skin cancer. Hopefully you don't have to get anythign else like that done.
ReplyDeleteTY, MK!!
DeleteGood grief, man! Hopefully your doctor lectured you just as sternly as the vet did! Sunscreen and a hat, man! Pumpkin puree is a good add in to dog food for husky dogs (not to be confused with Husky dogs.) Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debby! I have been bad about sunscreen so I am working on that. I think Frizz and Lucy will enjoy the puree.
DeleteI LOVED the Barbie meme. Boy that looks nasty. Rick just had one on his chest. yikes! Glad they got it all and you're on the mend. Just a sexy scar to tell people the battles you were in. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peg. I have definitely been in a few battles. I think I am in the teens now with my scars.
DeleteToo bad they couldn't have zigged the stitches to give you a Harry Potter Scar!
ReplyDeleteI did ask the doctor if that was an option, Bob.
DeleteOMG Mr. Shife!
ReplyDeleteFirst things first: get some Mederma or ScarAway STAT. I had a thing removed from my temple two years ago and now you can see virtually nothing because I started with those as soon as the doc took the stitches out. No scratching. No sun. No sleeping on that side until it's started to heal and wear silicone scar sheets.
Now, I had NO IDEA you can cook two things in a slow cooker?????
XOXO
TY, SP. Appreciate the insight and tips.
DeleteI recently met a man whose face looked as if it had gone through a windshield but turned out to be cancer. He was from Florida, never wore hats and never wore sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteI always wear a hat so I just need to step up my sunscreen game.
DeleteWow! My first thought was , why did you get a mutant centipede tattooed on your face? Then I felt bad when I learned what it really was. Still chuckling though. I really need to work on my empathy. Glad you're okay. Hugs, punkin.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deedles. All good. I can still feel the love and limited empathy from your message.
DeleteHappy and Holy Holidays to all the Shife's.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bob!!
DeleteGuess what I had braces also. Ouch on the stiches
ReplyDeleteYep, they are still hurting but they are out now.
DeleteOuch. Ouch, ouch, ouch. I hope it heals well. Smart to get it taken care of but ouch ouch ouch.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ami.
DeleteTony has been that route and is doing better about wearing sunscreen and hats. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's an impressive wound! I love Debra's idea and your reply. Sounds like a plan. As for weather, you can have ours if you like. Three snow storms so far, cold temps, a windstorm that left tens of thousands without power . . . and December's not even over yet. Let's see what January to March will have in store. I love the memes, especially the first one. And I understand the sadness of the season. I hope you can all find some joy to celebrate as well. All the best to all of you, from me.
