Happy Groundhog Day!!
I assume that you heard Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and we get 6 more weeks of winter.
I assume that you heard Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and we get 6 more weeks of winter.
Suck it, Phil.
Did you know that there are other groundhogs that celebrate the second of February?
- General Beauregard Lee from Georgia
- Buckeye Chuck from Ohio
- Balzac Billy from Alberta, Canada
- Fred la marmotte is from Quebec, Canada
- Shubenacadie Sam is from Nova Scotia, Canada
- Staten Island Chuck is from New York
- Stormy Marmot is from Colorado
- Wiarton Willie is from Ontario, Canada
There might be a few more but I only do half-assed Internet research.
If you want full-assed research, then I am not the blog for you.
Do you have a favorite groundhog?
Balzac Billy sounds cool.
Probably because I am pronouncing it Ball Sack Billy.
But I like Fred la marmotte.
Mostly because a marmot is mentioned in one of my favorite movies.
I will try and do better tomorrow.
I will persevere. I will keep moving forward. I will be the stream.
of course I am partial to my own state rodent.
ReplyDeletethat top pix is the way phil looks when they pull him outta his burrow.
Phil is a cool dude, anne marie in philly.
DeleteBuckeye Chuck for me. I've known him longer than you've been around!
ReplyDeleteGive him my best, Joanne.
DeleteI might want to see Balzac Billy.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteHanford Hal here. We had cloud cover, rain,
ReplyDeletesunshine and high wind here today. Who'da
heck knows what that all means!
xoxo :-)
Just one of the 12 seasons that we get in Idaho and Washington, right?
DeleteHappy Groundhog Day to you! I don't have a favorite groundhog so I'll join Joanne and vote for Buckeye Chuck!
ReplyDeleteHGD to you, Bonnie!
DeleteI’m only familiar with Buckeye Chuck. My husband used to work with someone whose wife was from Punxsutawney.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about BC until I wrote my blog post.
DeleteWhat? General Beauregard Lee is like, the coolest name. And we could call him Beau. BTW I never knew there were so many! I thought there was officially one telling us we were gonna freeze for two more months!
ReplyDeleteSilly me.
XOXO
I didn't know either, Sixpence. The more you know, right?
DeleteGroundhog Day is an American thing, I hope you had a good day!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is, Joey. We do some dumb shit over here.
DeleteI'm partial to Punxy Phil is my rodent. I grew up with him in PA so I'm stickin' with the original bad ass rodent.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me, Peg.
DeleteMy state doesn't have a mammal to predict winter. We do have a wooly caterpillar though which is used in the fall ahead of winter to determine if it will be long or short by the width of the black band.
ReplyDeleteIs the wooly caterpillar any more accurate than Phil?
DeleteTexas pete...rattlesnake..
ReplyDeleteNo thanks. I am not buying what a rattlesnake is selling.
DeleteSee, now I had to look up ground hog to see what the fuss is about. I never paid it any attention. I do like the other names for the critter. Woodchuck, for one. My favorites are land beaver and hoary marmot :) I thought it looked like a prairie dog with a thyroid condition. Sure enough, cousins! As for choosing a a rodent meteorologist, I will go for anyone whose name I can pronounce. That let's out Phil.
ReplyDeleteAlways like it when you stop by, Deedles. Thank you. I like land beaver as well.
DeleteI haven't read Balzac, but I have read "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress." Wonder if there is a Chinese groundhog?
ReplyDeletehttps://fromarockyhillside.com
Probably but I am sure he has been eaten.
DeleteBall Sack Billy, I second the vote for Coolest Name! We have no need for Woodchucks in the Desert to predict our Winters, we can't even predict if we'll even get one or not... we kinda gauge it on if the temps drop below triple digits for a minute. It was 99 Degrees Yesterday, yet, allegedly we're in Winter...
ReplyDelete99? Wow. I don't think I could handle that.
DeleteWell, I don't know about the 6 more weeks thing, maybe Punxsutawny wasn't feeling well after the secret pre-superbowl party he had the night before :-)
ReplyDeleteCould be. Phil looks like he enjoys the nightlife.
DeleteI like Fred la Marmotte also. I saw my first groundhog in New York last year, and didn't know what it was. I was terrified that a mutant squirrel had gotten loose.
ReplyDeleteI need to learn more about Fred.
